Instant Messaging (IM) for Corporate Communications
Instant messaging is often shunned by many organizations because of the obvious reasons that it may distract the staff or crew from their day to day operations. Often seen as a social tool or even toy, an assumption quite easily derived when seeing smiley faces and quirky sounds coming from the small software programs.
But there are many benefits to instant messaging that the corporate community does not take into consideration. Instant messages are well, “instant”. The communication is digital, and can be easily recorded or documented. The communication takes less commitment than a phone call, but slightly more personal, more casual and quicker than an email which actually can encourage more communication as a whole and definitely make those communications more regular. IM’s allow for quick questions, quick notes and perfect for status updates. Tie all that in with file sharing capabilities, video conferencing and calling, and the ability to see online/offline status, instant messaging is one of the most underutilized tools in corporate communications today.
At Pressure we will embrace these technologies, and harness their benefits to make us faster, more efficient, and be readily available to our clients. IM will make client as well as supplier communication more frequent and keep our status up to the minute.
Our current IM provider: MSN Messenger Live

World wide web stimulus
There is passion, and creativity on the web. It's not always about mathmatic function and usability. The web does have form and user experience.

Blogs are bullshit
The blogging space is occupied by millions of people who have nothing to say about nothing. Filling cyberspace with data swallowing up readership into an endless blackhole. Readers leave with nothing but a dioriented, nausous feeling of unsatifaction. Unorganized and information lacking, most blogs are a dizzying sub par mind dump of people trying to gain some sort of cyber social traction on the web creating nothing but white noise or static.
I view blogs as the opportunity to publish and be a resource. Skilled communicators with information to share, educated opinions, well researched data or the inside scoop. As the dust settles, the evolution of the blog will force massive change in the media landscape and those who contribute to this evolution will lead the revolution of choice. Because choice is what will drive media. With all the information out there, the blind purchase is dead. Expertise opinion will reshape media. Media will penetrate all aspects of life, but only the content that is most relevent will stick. Push will turn to pull and only chosen messages will pass censorship. Your message, your company, YOU, will have to be selected. Selling has evolved into relevancy.

Blogging as a CMS
Blogging began as online journals or "weblogs" often with personal thoughts and links, as has their popularity grew took on commercial appeal. The ability do truely delve into the personality of a company be having the ability to read the thoughts of it's executives has brought reality and truth to the corporate image or company personality which in todays crowded brand marketplace gives quite the edge in the battle for first to mind recognition of a brand.
Blogging technology has not only revolutionized publishing online but soon also how websites are created. Before this blogging technology came to the mass market, in order for a person without an extensive background in web technology and software to update and publish to a website, it sometimes took the creation of an advanced content management system. That CMS acted as a lamen interface where the user can update and modify web content without technical knowledge, similar to that of a word processor. Obviously requiring a substancial investment to develop, these systems are very redumentary with limited features and capabilities.
Blogging technology now has been so developed for the mass market consumer that even a child could easily understand how to publish to the web. The process is extremely easy, quick and cost effective if not free. The content that is published on blogs do not have to be restricted to the personal thoughts or opinionated 'newspaper like' articles on topics with limited background content like the blog community maybe filled with. The content can be well written, and strategically planned and utilized to aid the publisher in acheiving ojectives and goals. And because the content is so easily published through the wealth of online hosted options, these services become the CMS of the future, replacing much of the rudamentary systems which previously costly to build.
Top five online blog hosts are:
Blogger www.blogger.com
Typepad www.typepad.com
Windows Live Spaces (MSN Spaces) spaces.live.com
Yahoo 360 yahoo.360.com
AOL Journals hometown.aol.com
The huge mass appeal of the blogging community have allowed for companies like Typepad to even develop the technology even further by adding technology for picture uploads, design templates, and photo gallery options. But the most powerful of all the capabilites is Typepad's ability to install third party extensions or widgets, which with the click of a button can add advanced technology to the simple weblog such as searching, advertising, and event RSS feeds or subscription. RSS feeds allow users to be automatically informed of new posts or changes to the webblog without having to check back to the blog, which essentially syndicates the site creating even more stickyness aiding in increading demand for users to return frequently much like TV guide would be to a sitcom televsion show.
Online blog host technologies although very advanced do still have their small disadvantages. Obviously because the technologies are hosted they will always remain outside of the publishers web domain but fortunately can now be skinned or framed through creative web design to seamlessly load into a corporate website appearing as if it were original page. Secondly, although very stylish and with a wealth of customization options and templates, the same format is used by millions around the globe which may not fit the brand or corporate image guidelines of many companies looking to leverage these technologies. And thirdly, hosted techonologies are designed for the mass market and therefore sometimes lack enterprise level customization ability ie. ability to interface with corporate databases, backup systems..etc. which may force many business to customize their own solutions. Fortunately there is some strong software support for blogging technologies:
Moveable Type www.moveabletype.org
Wordpress www.wordpress.org
Textpattern www.textpattern.com
Although with small disadvantages, hosted blogging technologies are revolutionizing publishing around the world. With technology advancing daily and fusing with mixed media such as online communites like myspace or friendster, and interfacing and fusing with video technology like youtube, blogging represents shift of information and publishing media control from media companies to the people. Allowing the small companies a voice and brand choices to be made through thoughts rather than restricted to image.
